I’m phoning this one in today.
Stop the presses! Who told Robert “Freddy Krueger” Englund that he could direct a movie? Did Englund call Stephen King for tips on how to direct a film? Wait, I take that back. Maximum Overdrive is a freaking masterpiece compared to this flick.
I don’t even know how to sum up 976-EVIL so I’m going for the lazy approach and stealing the plot outline from IMDB:
People who dial 976-EVIL receive supernatural powers and turn into satanic killers.
What did I learn from 976-EVIL?
- Stephen Geoffreys who played Evil Ed in Fright Night plays a teenager in this film but has a receding hairline which makes him look to be about 45
- the character of Spike was useless
- nothing happens for the first 40 minutes
- tough guys play poker with a deck of naked girl cards
- the blonde chick is a terrible actress
- there is a poster in the background of one scene for a band called RUN DMO
- was there even one likeable character in this film?
- why was the main character named Hoax?
Do I recommend this film?
NO, NO, NO!!! This movie sucks. Period. The end.

Yes, naked ladies! You shall be disappointed. Don’t forget to rent the sequel (which I’ve never seen but can only assume can be better than this piece of crap).
